The bullets just magically conform to their 6-round circle in your bare hand as you load them. The problem is, from what I remember there is no speed loader in that animation. Normally this would be done with a speed loader, which is an item which holds the rounds until they are inserted into the revolver's drum magazine, at which point the speed loader releases its grip on the bullets. When it is being loaded, the character pops in six rounds at a time. The revolver has a bit of an opposite problem. There is no magical spring in the barrel to conveniently eject them. Having used a double barrel shotgun myself, I can tell you that normally you need to shake them out of the barrel, or take them out with your fingers. Speaking of ejecting rounds, the shotgun has a weird animation where the shell casings pop out the moment the gun opens, as if pushed by coiled springs.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any mod which addresses this. In the case of the shotgun and revolvers, the remaining rounds are at least ejected before joining your magical ammo pool (instead of clattering wastefully to the ground like the animation would suggest). Luckily, there is a fix for the lever action rifles with the Bullet Counted Reload System mod. I'm simply astonished this bug was left in the game and seriously hampers enjoyment of the lever action rifle, despite owning one myself and it being my favorite type of gun. You have 2 rounds to load into your rifle? No sweat, you get the pleasure of loading three extra rounds which don't even exist. You want to just reload one round to stop a ghoul with 3 hp from ripping your throat out? No, you can sit there and watch your character try to load the other 4 you don't need and then ragdoll to the ground as the ghoul finishes them off. What happens to the rounds already loaded in the tube? Apparently, they teleport into your magical ammo pool so the new rounds can be loaded. In the case of the lever action, every time you reload the character will insert 5 rounds into the firearms, regardless of how many rounds are actually in there. The bug consists of the game treating each of these guns as completely unloaded every time you reload. This is the lever action reload bug, though I contend it also affects the double-barrel shotgun and. Fallout 4 has a massive bug which the developers point blank do not care about. The guns in 4 feel better, but their actual mechanics are in many ways worse. From what I understand, it's head and shoulders ahead of the gunplay seen in FO3, but FNV gives FO4 a run for its money.

However, I will include a few links to mods which partially address some of these issues.įallout 4 has many shortcomings in the gunplay system. This isn't intended as a hate post, but constructive criticism which I can only hope will one day reach the Bethesda developers, because I want the next Fallout to be the best it can be, and because mods have been unable to address some of these shortcomings in satisfying ways. For the most part these are subtle things, some of which I never noticed until becoming a gun owner myself. There are a few things in Fallout 4's weapon mechanics, terminology/consistency, and aesthetics which I find disappointing.
